The rules Coastal Clues applies before any affiliate, sponsored or gifted content goes live.
Current commercial status
Selected Looe walking tours use clearly labelled Viator affiliate links, and accommodation searches use a clearly labelled Booking.com affiliate link through CJ. Display advertisements, sponsored listings and external analytics remain inactive. Other offer categories stay disabled until a genuine partner account and approved destination URL are supplied.
Clear labels before the click
A visitor must see “Ad — affiliate link”, “Ad — sponsored” or an equally clear description before interacting with commercial content. A footer disclosure, vague “partner” wording or a discount code alone is not enough.
How recommendations are chosen
Editorial usefulness comes first. Travel options should be assessed for relevance to Looe, accessibility information, public-transport usefulness, cancellation terms, provider transparency and the freshness of price or availability claims. Payment never verifies a filming location or buys favourable coverage.
Local business listings
Basic local-business listings are free, displayed alphabetically within filtered results and linked directly where a verified business website is available. Coastal Clues does not sell ranking positions. Businesses can request an addition, correction, approved image change or removal without buying advertising.
Reviews, gifts and incentives
Any free stay, gifted product, discount, payment or other incentive must be disclosed prominently. Reviews must reflect a genuine experience; incentives cannot be hidden and negative information must not be suppressed to create a misleading impression.
Local reviews and replies
Open anonymous star ratings are not accepted. Any published review must be based on a genuine experience, distinguish fact from opinion, disclose incentives and give a named business a fair route to correct factual errors or provide a response. Sponsored material remains separate from independent editorial assessment.
Accuracy and maintenance
Commercial links should record an owner, market, destination, disclosure, approval state and last-check date. Expired or redirected links must be disabled. Prices, ratings, availability and savings are omitted unless they can be attributed and kept current.
Privacy and cookies
Coastal Clues currently sets no cookies, uses no local preference storage and runs no external analytics or advertising pixels. If non-essential tracking is introduced later, it must remain blocked until a visitor makes a positive choice, with an equally clear way to reject or change that choice.
Complaints and corrections
Visitors can report unclear labels, broken links or inaccurate claims through the feedback page. Material corrections should be dated and commercial complaints should be reviewed separately from partner relationships.
