Research, evidence and accountability

How Coastal Clues checks a clue

A public methodology, source register, limitations statement and revision ledger for programme, place and travel claims.

Evidence states

Coastal Clues editorial model. This is a schematic explanation, not a production workflow.

Named coverage states

Table 1: information for Research methodology and revision history
StateMeaningDoes not mean
RecordedA named field is present with its supporting record.Every possible detail is known.
Verified locationA suitable published source supports production use of the named place.Every scene or episode used that place.
Verified regionProduction use is supported at area level. An individual landmark is confirmed.
Editorial interpretationOriginal analysis based on the programme or documented context. An official production statement.
Fan theoryClearly labelled speculation submitted or developed by viewers.Fact, leak or inside information.

Source hierarchy

  1. Rights holders, production companies, broadcasters, venue owners and public bodies for their own facts.
  2. Direct professional credits and reputable destination or transport operators.
  3. Established reference databases and responsible reporting when a primary record is unavailable.
  4. Fan observations only as labelled interpretation or a lead to verify—not as proof.

Known limitations

  • Episode-credit records rely partly on established secondary databases when a complete primary credit list is not publicly accessible.
  • A location source may confirm production use without identifying a scene or episode.
  • Viewing availability, transport, access, opening and commercial details can change after review; first-party links are provided for the final check.
  • Guest-star pages are credit indexes, not invented biographies. A short record stays short when stronger sourced context is unavailable.
  • Secondary reports describe a fifth series, but no matching public BBC or Red Planet announcement was located during the 1 September 2026 review; the site therefore labels it reported rather than confirmed.

Core professional source register

Episode, article, location and actor pages retain their claim-level or record-level links; this register is a starting point, not a substitute for those citations.

Revision ledger

1 September 2026 · Editorial and product review

Removed unlicensed remote portrait requests, gated every external map behind a visitor choice, repaired broken trip-option fragments, simplified navigation, removed an unnecessary consent overlay and added a dated Series 5 evidence status.

1 September 2026 · Methodology and fan journey

Replaced percentage-based completeness language with named coverage states; restored the quiz route; added this methodology, public limitations, RSS and expanded automated checks.

30–31 August 2026 · Series 4 and location records

Completed the six Series 4 case records and added source-led Port Eliot and Pentillie visitor-access notes.
