Esther’s story so far

Character arc, Series 1–4 (no case solutions)

Shipton Abbott's detective sergeant is capable, ambitious and knows the town inside out, so she is initially baffled by Humphrey's roundabout methods. By Series 2 she has become his trusted partner. She is a single mother to Zoe and has rarely dated since Zoe's father died when Zoe was a baby. In Series 3 she begins a secret romance with Archie Hughes, then pulls back at the last moment. Series 4 sees Zoe leave to go travelling, and Esther reconsider what she wants, including Archie.
